Wednesday, community volunteers are helping teachers move into the brand new state-of-the-art Cypress Creek Middle High School, in preparation for the upcoming school year.

  • Pasco teachers move into new state-of-the-art middle high school today
  • New school built to deal with overcrowding in middle, high schools
  • New elementary school to open this year

The new school was built to deal with overcrowding. Pasco schools have dealt with overcrowding for a few years now because of all of the new housing developments in the area.

While no student wants to switch schools once they’ve made friends, school officials said something had to be done—and the new school will help alleviate some of the overcrowding.

The school will serve students from 6th grade through 11th grade. The middle school area of campus will open with about 1,000 students and will help relieve the overcrowding at Charles S. Rushe, Dr. John Lone, and Thomas E. Weightman Middle Schools.

The high school area of campus will open with about 1,400 students, relieving overcrowding at Wesley Chapel, Wiregrass Ranch, and Sunlake High Schools.

Cypress Creek Middle High is a state-of-the-art campus with modern science labs and a huge outdoor athletic facility.

School officials say moving is, of course, hard work and they enlisted the help of volunteers this morning to unpack boxes and set up the brand new classrooms.

A new elementary school will also open this year in Pasco County--Bexley Elementary in Land O’ Lakes.

The new school will relieve overcrowding at Odessa and Oakstead Elementary Schools and will open with about 700 students from those schools.
