A massive sinkhole that opened up in Land O' Lakes, destroying two homes, has stopped growing and is thought to be dormant, Pasco County officials said Monday morning.

Pasco County Emergency Management on Monday tested 20 water samples in the immediate area of the sinkhole. There was no evidence that any wells were contaminated, officials said.

County officials are working with the Florida Department of Health to determine if any additional testing needs to be done.

The sinkhole is estimated to be between 200 to 250 feet wide and 50 feet deep.

Pasco County Commissioner for District 3 Kathryn E. Starkey said it was jarring to see the destruction caused by the sinkhole.

"Seeing it on TV is much different than seeing it live," she said. "I'm just so thankful that we had no loss of life."

The homes that were rentals and the renters did not have rental insurance. An insurance adjuster will be on site Monday.

The United Way has set up a donation page to help those affected: unitedwaypasco.org/give-now/give-now-sink-hole-fund. People can also text "sinkhole" to 41444.

Pasco County officials said the county will begin work to fill in the hole, and Duke Energy confirmed that it will reset two power poles Wednesday morning.
