All presidential candidates make promises while on the campaign trail.

While running for the White House, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump promised voters he would, “establish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first.

The promise received an IN THE WORKS rating on the PolitiFact Trump-O-Meter.

PolitiFact writer Allison Graves said President Trump recently signed the “Buy American, Hire American” executive order.

That order asks that changes be made to the H1B Visa program.

“Now his visa program was set up to have or allow employers to hire foreign employees temporarily but Donald Trump would like to see reforms put in to place that make sure that American workers were given priority when it comes to hiring in United States,” Graves said.

In addition, Graves says the order also directs government agencies to strictly uphold ‘Buy American laws’ which President Trump says are polices that dictate domestic goods be given a priority over foreign goods.

For that reason, President Trump's promise received an IN THE WORKS rating.
