It’s time to get rid of potentially dangerous and expired prescription drugs from your medicine cabinets.

Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

There are more than 20 drop off locations throughout the Tampa and Orlando areas.

Drug Take Back Day was created by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration about 12 years ago.

According to the DEA, more than seven million pounds of pills have been turned in nationally.

The agency said there are several benefits of Drug Take Back Day.

The benefits include disposing of medicine properly.

The old methods of flushing prescriptions down the toilet or throwing them away in the trash can cause safety and health concerns.

Prescription drugs can also be easily taken from medicine cabinets by family members and friends.

This could lead to overdoses and accidental poisonings.

Dropping off unwanted prescriptions is free and you will remain anonymous.
