This weekend, Formula 1 powerboat racers from all over the country will hit the water for the inaugural Grand Prix.

"It's the excitement, this is in your face racing up close," said Terry Rinker with Rinker Racing.

Professional racers have been gearing up and putting the finishing touches on their powerboats that can go from zero to 100 mph in less than five seconds.

For many of the racers, the Gulfport Grand Prix will be a family affair.

"I would say 80 percent of our participants here are second or third generation racers so we've got a long history of family being involved with the sport," said race promoter Tim Seebold, with Gulfport Grand Prix LLC.

Bay Area native Rinker will be going up against his two sons while speeding through somewhat of a home turf.

"I can go home and sleep in my own bed tonight so it's really nice to be able to show off what we do all over the country and Canada and Mexico to do it right here in front of our fans," Rinker said.

Fans can watch up to 25 boats at a time racing within inches of each other, giving adrenaline junkies the ultimate experience.

"The weather should be great, so everybody come on out, enjoy it, see what formula 1 racing is all about and have a great day," Seebold said.

The 1st annual Gulfport Grand Prix will be held April 28-30.
