Topping those release dates was confirmation of when "Star Wars: Episode IX" would hit theaters. The film, directed by "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow, will open in theaters on May 24, 2019.

Not much is known about “Episode IX” except that Carrie Fisher will not appear as Leia. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy set the record straight a few weeks ago during Star Wars Celebration in Orlando.

Both “Star Wars: The Force Awakens and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story were released in mid-December. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi will follow suit on Dec. 15. With “Episode IX,” Disney and Lucasfilm seem ready to try for a summer blockbuster.

Also slated for summer 2019 is the live-action remake of the Disney classic "The Lion King." Directed by Jon Favreau, whose 2016 live-action version of "The Jungle Book" was a huge hit for Walt Disney Pictures, this version of Simba's story will bow in theaters on July 19, 2019.

Finally, 2019 will bring a Thanksgiving weekend delight to fans of Elsa, Anna, and the gang from 2013's "Frozen." "Frozen 2" will be released on Nov. 27, 2019.

As for 2020, Disney and Lucasfilm promise the return of their legendary fedora-wearing adventurer, along with the men who have brought him to life since the 1980s. A new "Indiana Jones" film, directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring Harrison Ford, will open in theaters on July 10, 2020.
