A youth football league in Zephyrhills is picking up the pieces at its concession stand after being broken into for the third time.

  • Youth football league's concession stand broken into for 3rd time
  • League trying to raise funds to repair concession stand
  • Thieves stole drinks from the stand

Coach Marvin Johnson with the Zephyrhills Athletic League got the call Wednesday morning.

“The lock was jammed. You see the hole right here,” said Johnson.

The thieves broke a door and a rolling door to get into the concession stand. This time, all they stole were drinks, but Johnson said it has been worse in the past.

“For the past couple of years it has just been getting broken into; walkie talkies, petty cash, candy, drinks,” Johnson said.

They recently replaced the lock to the stand, but unfortunately it didn’t deter the thieves from robbing the place.

“We try not to let the kids know so much because I think that would hurt them a lot more since they really don’t know what’s going on and why people are taking from them,” Johnson said.

The non-profit is hoping to get surveillance cameras, but in the meantime, they’re looking for ways to fix the concession stand with limited funds.

“If you want to come here and steal from kids then that’s on you, you got to deal with that heartache, but we can’t tell these kids ‘hey we can’t pay for something because somebody is breaking in for no apparent reason,’” Johnson said.

The league hopes to have the concession stand repaired before the season starts in June. They are currently raising funds. If you would like to help, the league has started a GoFundMe page
