A Central Texas church is in mourning after more than a dozen people died following Wednesday's head-on collision between a church bus and a pickup.

  • After a 13th person died last night at the hospital, a 14th person died Thursday morning
  • 14 passengers were on the bus
  • 12 died on scene

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman says the accident was caused when a pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the bus.

One person, the lone survivor from the bus, remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Authorities said the pickup driver is in stable condition and expected to be OK.

The crash occurred just after noon Wednesday on Highway 83, about an hour and a half west of San Antonio near Garner State Park.

The 14 people on this bus were seniors and members of the choir here at the first Baptist church in New Braunfels.

The pastor tells us the group was returning back home from a trip that they take once or twice a year.

"We are still grieving, and we're going to grieve for a while, and we will see what tomorrow looks like, and then the next day, but we know this, we know the strength of the lord is going to provide our next steps, tomorrow and the next day," said Pastor BradMcLean.

Meanwhile the National Transportation Safety Board says it has investigators on scene.
