Candidates for any office make lots of promises on the campaign trial.  The trick is making good on those promise if elected.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, then-Republican candidate Donald Trump said he would cut down the number of government workers.

In fact, President Trump promised to place a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce the federal workforce through attrition, exempting military, public safety, and public health.

PolitiFact Florida put the claim to the Trump-O-Meter.  Its rating:  IN THE WORKS.

Writer Josh Gillin says the president didn’t waste any time making good on the promise.

“On his first full work day in office, he did sign an executive action that put this hiring freeze on,” Gillin said.

He went on to explain why the claim received the IN THE WORKS rating.

“Now, that also said that by April 22nd, the government would come up with a plan to reduce that workforce and decide which positions were needed and which ones were not needed and really move forward with that. So, even though he signed that action on the very first day, the first full workday in office, we have to wait and see whether or not they really do end up saving money and reducing the about 1.3 million people who work for the federal government,” Gillin said.

For that reason, President Trump’s claim received an IN THE WORKS rating.
