  • $200,000 in damage to Tampa 4 Rivers in overnight fire
  • Fire caused by freezer unit near fryer
  • Fire sparked late Wednesday night

Fire crews got a call around 11 p.m. Wednesday and when they arrived on scene they found heavy smoke venting from the building.

Officials said when firefighters entered the building they did not locate an active fire but found the automatic sprinkler system was active in the kitchen area.

Fire crews found that the fire was caused by a freezer unit near the fryer area in the kitchen.

Fire crews said the automatic sprinkler system was able to contain the fire to the area of the freezer and prevented further extension.

There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire. Fire, smoke, and water damage to the building estimated at $200,000.

"It's definitely a blessing that nothing...it could have been a lot worse. So we were definitely spared one on this one," General Manager Nick West said.
