Clearwater police are searching for a man who they say broke into a woman's Clearwater home while she was sleeping--and slipped into her bedroom.

The incident occurred at a home off McMullen Booth Road. 

The woman said it started around 4:30 a.m. Saturday when her doorbell camera detected someone outside. It started recording a man dressed in black and wearing gloves, trying to open her front door. 

"I was petrified. So scared. I don't know who he is. And I don't know why my house, I have no idea," she said. 

The homeowner said when the suspect couldn't open the door he came to a window that was open just two inches at the time and cut the screen. 

The victim said when she heard her dog barking, she looking around her bedroom and saw the man standing over her bed.

"He told me to put a pillow over my head, and I just sat up and I just started screaming," the homeowner said. "Adreneline kicked in and I screamed like my life depended on it." 

Police said he then took off running out of the front door. It's not clear if anything was taken from her home and the victim wasn't hurt.

The homeowner said she is thankful for her doorbell camera and her best buddy, Charlies. 

"I rescued him and he saved my life," she said. 

Police said the suspect is described as being in his mid to late 40s, between 5'10" and 6', and has salt and pepper hair with a gray goatee.
