There is a traffic signal in Clearwater that at least one resident wants moved.

It's located about 125 feet from the intersection of Keene Road and Palmetto Street. The problem with the light is it doesn't work as it should.

"The only time I ever see it trip is when, there's one older gentleman in the neighborhood that walked over to go golfing Sunday morning," said resident Christine O'Donnell. "But it doesn't help us in the morning commute at all."

The signal is designed to allow pedestrians to safely cross the road. The problem is, other than the random cyclist who pushes the walk button, the light doesn't really do anything. It certainly doesn't stop the traffic, O'Donnell said.

"So, if you're not trying to take a left, you're just all backed up on Palmetto, and I've waited. At one point I timed it," O'Donnell said. "Twenty-eight minutes just to get out of the neighborhood."

O'Donnell wants the light moved to the intersection itself.

Paul Bertels with the City of Clearwater said studies are done and a plan is in place.

"We are in the process of relocating this signal to the intersection of Palmetto Street and Keene Road to serve as a regular traffic signal for vehicular traffic," he said. "We should have the signal relocated early in 2018."

The signal was put in when the school zones were different and there were a lot of kids crossing that spot. Traffic studies agree with O'Donnell that it is no longer needed at that location.
