Tropical Depression 18 has strengthened into Tropical Storm Philippe.

The update, as of 5 p.m., has the storm about 20 miles southwest of Havana, Cuba, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

The central minimum pressure is 1002 mb, and the storm is currently moving to the north at 29 mph.

Central and western parts of Cuba are experiencing heavy rains, which will spread northward across the Florida Keys and South Florida.

Tropical storm force winds are possible for southeast Florida later tonight, but the stronger winds with the storm will stay on the east side, over the waters.
