Hillsborough and Pinellas county officials are planning a joint effort in an attempt to land a new Amazon headquarters.

It may be a long shot.

Officials with both counties came together to create a video touting the Bay area as part of a proposal to be the location of Amazon's second American headquarters.

The video shows the area's downtowns, beaches, sports, restaurants, entertainment options and outdoor activities. It also features mayors Bob Buckhorn and Rick Kriseman touting Tampa and St. Petersburg, respectively, and the area as a whole.

Amazon is hunting for a location to build a second American campus - a new spot away from its Seattle headquarters. Communities across the country are vying to land the internet retail giant.

However, all may not be good with a Bay area bid.

Lack of organized, upgraded mass transit could be a sticking point.

"One of the things that Amazon asks for is an established transit hub," said Tampa Bay Business Journal Editor Alexis Muellner. "And our region has continually been stymied where we’ve still been trying to figure that out."

A recent national study found the Bay area ranked 26th among the 65 communities vying for Amazon. Austin, Texas has been listed as a top choice.

Amazon is expected to make its decision on a second headquarters location next year.
