A Lakewood Ranch man was killed in a chain reaction crash in Manatee County late Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at State Road 70 and Braden Avenue in Manatee County. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Nissan Frontier, driven by Brian Banks, 53, was traveling westbound on SR-70 when Banks failed to stop at the intersection of Braden Ave. 

Banks collided into the back of a Honda CR-V, driven by William Aker, 47. The collision pushed Aker across the median and into the eastbound lanes. 

A third vehicle traveling eastbound on SR-70 tried to avoid Aker but ended up colliding with the Honda. 

Aker died from his injuries sustained during the crash. 

Banks was transported to the Lakewood Ranch Medical Hospital with serious injuries. 

The driver of the third vehicle, Michael Molloy, 63, and his passenger, Mary Molloy, 60, only received minor injuries. 

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, according to FHP.
