The Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, is being repealed by the United States Congress.  It’s something Republicans have wanted for a long time.

Now that they’re leading Congress, they are making that election promise come true.

During the election, several Republicans spoke out about the issue.  That includes Florida Governor Rick Scott.  The Republican is quoted as saying the language of the law, “was invented by liberal academic theorists.”

PolitiFact Florida heard the claim and gave it a MOSTLY FALSE rating.

Writer Josh Gillin says you have to go way back to the 90s to get the details.

“He had mentioned people from Harvard and MIT and Penn University in Philadelphia, and actually, you know, they did work on the law to a certain extent, but we need to remember that changes in health care go back to the 90's when conservatives actually put forth a bunch of ideas that included an individual mandate,” Gillin said.  “Places like the Heritage Foundation, a lot of Senators and Congressmen there, had talked about, you know, creating these big pools for people to pay into insurance in order to cover people who were really sick, and so these are not new ideas, and they go back several decades now, so Scott is really kind of omitting these little details that Republicans were heavily involved, including Republican Governor Mitt Romney in Massachusetts, who was instrumental in the law there and working with Democrats in that state.”

For that reason, Scott’s claim received a MOSTLY FALSE rating.
