The mother of Christopher "Drew" Leinonen, one of the 49 people shot and killed June 12 during the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, will be a featured speaker Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention.

Christine Leinonen has been one of many activists to emerge following the murders of her son and his boyfriend, 22-year-old Juan Ramon Guerrero.

Convention officials said Christine Leinonen will be calling for increased gun control. She reportedly met with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in July when Clinton visited the memorial at Pulse.

Leinonen is scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. with Jose Arriagada, who used to date her son.
