Happy Birthday Snooty! The famous Tampa Bay manatee celebrates his 68th birthday today.

  • Snooty was one of the first manatees born in captivity
  • The birthday bash takes place at the South Florida Museum today
  • The outdoor event is free

The South Florida Museum in Bradenton is hosting Snooty’s 68th Birthday Bash & Wildlife Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held outside at the Spanish Plaza located at the museum’s north parking lot.

The event will feature children’s games, free snacks and a display of birthday cards for Snooty.

The purpose of the event is to not only celebrate Snooty’s big day, but also promote wildlife awareness.

Best of all, the event is free. For those who want go inside the museum, admission will be reduced all day: $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children ages 4-12.

Snooty is the first recorded manatee born in captivity, according to the museum’s website.  He was brought to Bradenton as part of the 1949 Desoto Celebration.  Snooty has had more than one million visitors.
