Now that it's June 1, we of course are in a new month, but now we enter meteorological summer.

Here in the Tampa Bay area, the summer is typically wet and warm. We think of our rainy season beginning June 1. Of course, some years it starts earlier and others a bit later.

Well, for parts of our area it began over the last week of May, especially inland. May turned out to be a rather wet month but only because we had two main rain events and the last week of some scattered showers.

Here is a look at the numbers:

Tampa

Winter Haven

As we move into the month of June, we transition to the rainy season. Daily storms can be expected around the area usually beginning with extra coverage over inland locations, that is why June ends up with higher totals over those spots. Coastal spots usually begin to get in on the daily act by the middle of the month.
