Tuesday marks the registration deadline for anyone hoping to vote in Florida's March 15 presidential primary election.

The deadline is for anyone who is not already a registered voter.

Statewide supervisor of elections offices are reminding anyone who wants to vote to first register and then identify with a political party.

Florida is a "closed primary" state. That means that only voters registered with a political party may vote in that party's primary election.

All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote on issues and nonpartisan races during a primary election.

And your party does not affect your ballot for any election other than a primary election.

Also, early voting gets underway February 29 and lasts through March 13. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is March 9 and Election Day is March 15.

"We've got a huge electorate," said Craig Latimer, the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections. "We've got over 797,000 voters so it's obviously to everyone's benefit to have vote by mail, early vote and Election Day voting, so three methods to vote."

Last Friday, Hillsborough County mailed out close to 100,000 mail-in ballots. Pinellas County shipped out more than 200,000, which is more than any other county in the state.
