UPDATE: Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. - The Polk County Medical Examiner's office has corrected their earlier report, stating that Kenneth Wisham's death has not been determined to be a homicide. No final determination on a cause of death has been reached. The investigation by the Lakeland Police Department is ongoing.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 2:50 p.m. - Walmart has issued the following statement regarding the death of Kenneth Wisham:

"Our condolences go out to the family. We are working with police as part of an ongoing investigation and performing a review of our own. All associates involved in this incident have been suspended pending the investigation as we continue to learn all the details."

According to a report issued by the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office, the cause of death for Kenneth Wisham, 64, was homicide, and not a medical condition.

No further details were released regarding the extent of Wisham's injuries.

According to initial reports, Wisham was confronted and apprehended by Walmart workers on Sunday after a brief chase when he tried to leave the store 5800 U.S. Highway 98 North with approximately $380 worth in DVDs in a shopping cart.

Because Wisham's death occurred during the commission of a crime, Lakeland Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is now pursuing the case as a homicide.

They took sworn statements from witnesses shortly after the incident, but are now seeking any additional witnesses. Anyone who may have seen what happened or might have more information about the case should call Detective Stacy Pough at 863-834-8978.
