An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run that killed a woman and seriously injured a Polk County deputy.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office didn't release the suspect's name but said a 6 p.m. media briefing will be held, and more information will be provided there.

Bay News 9 reporter Laurie Davison will be at the briefing and will have updates during our evening newscasts.

The crash occurred Oct. 29.

Deputy Adam Pennell had seen a woman in the median of SR 60 and stopped his patrol car and turned his lights on. An unknown vehicle entered the median and struck Pennell and 33-year-old Jessica Enchautegui-Otero of Tampa.

She died at the scene.

Pennell suffered a number injuries, including broken arms, ribs and pelvis.

"He is in such significant pain that we can’t even have a conversation with him, a lucid conversation," Sheriff Grady Judd said Monday. "They have got him on medication for pain."

Authorities said an anonymous CrimeStoppers tip led to the arrest.
