Two veterans are searching the area finding fellow vets who are in need.

Walking along a narrow trail through some dense woods in Melbourne, Gulf War veterans Cliff Lee and Paul Gregg find themselves on a different kind of mission.

With tiny care kits full of toothbrushes and personal care items in hand, they are combing known homeless camps across Brevard County.

Their goal -- tell those people who fought for their country that someone cares.

"Even though we got out of the military, we still feel like we are serving today," said Gregg.

Both men live in Jacksonville, but spent time serving locally serving at Patrick Air Force Base.

They had a friend and fellow veteran who committed suicide.

After some research, they saw that on average, 23 veterans die like that everyday in the U.S.

They needed to act.

That spawned '2 Vets on a Mission'.

"People don't realize, sometimes giving a little bit can mean so much," Lee said.

Countless more veterans are homeless. That's why they are traveling throughout the southeastern United States, bringing the kits to homeless camps.

In the past few days in Brevard County, they've handed out a couple dozen, even when no one is 'home."

But while they are visiting, they are checking on those who aren't choosing the lifestyle, and need assistance to get a place to live.

"If we can get to the root cause of why, then maybe we can help them," said Lee.

"There's help out there. They just don't know," adds Gregg.
