A fire didn’t keep a Royal Caribbean ship from heading back out to sea today, after being inspected for fire damage in Port Canaveral.

That fire started last Wednesday during a stop in Jamaica. On Sunday, the passengers who were on board returned to Port Canaveral.

Heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the top of the boat on Wednesday in Jamaica. A spokesperson for the cruise line says a fire started in the mechanical space of the ship.

The captain ordered passengers to wear their lifejackets and go to their assigned evacuation station.

"As we looked over and saw the black flames eventually erupted into a fire out of the smoke stacks on the 13th or 14th deck," said Gregg Haynes, a passenger from Kansas City. "So we were standing there watching it as we're pulling into Jamaica and the flames are just getting bigger and thicker."

After a week on the ship, passengers were able to disembark Sunday morning, still talking about Wednesday's terrifying events.

"It was a little scary, not knowing (what was going on)," said passenger Cindy Speas from North Carolina. "It was only our second cruise so I thought surely this is not a drill."

Passengers were instructed to put on their life jackets and move to their assigned evacuation station. The ship's fire suppression system doused the flames.

One crew member was treated for a first degree burn. The ship still has some noticeable damage.

"All the metal on the portside smoke stack is pretty much gone," said Raymond Bower, a passenger from California. "It's all black. the stairwells have a lot of water damaged there's a couple of cracks in the wall."

The cruise line has been using social media to assure customers that future sailings won't be impacted by this fire. Passengers on the ship say they received a 150 dollar on-board credit for dealing with Wednesday's fire.
