The woman who crashed her sport utility vehicle on I-75 Saturday while allegedly driving drunk with nine unrestrained children on board is scheduled to make her first court appearance today.

A toddler was killed, and a 6-month-old infant was seriously injured in the crash, which happened around 5 p.m. near the I-75 / I-275 split in Manatee County. There were 12 people in the vehicle

Shameka L. Jones, 24, of Winter Haven is charged with DWI manslaughter, DWI with serious bodily injury, DWI-damage to property or person (nine counts), child neglect with great bodily harm and child neglect without great bodily harm (eight counts).

Jones, of Winter Haven, was driving a 2001 Ford Expedition north on I-75 at mile marker 233 around when she veered onto the east shoulder. The SUV went airborne, flipped several times and struck several trees, troopers said.

Today's 1 p.m. first appearance will determine if she will be allowed to leave jail.

Isaac Solomon, 2, was pronounced dead at South Bay Hospital, and Issah Solomon, 6 months old, was taken to All Children's Hospital with serious injuries. The other seven children were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

A Florida Highway Patrol report said Jones and the two other adults suffered serious injuries, but those injuries were later deemed to be not as serious.
