This Thanksgiving, many families in Manatee County are thankful for some special pies.

Miller’s Dutch Kitchen is baking close to 4,000 pies for the holiday.

Megan Mae Miller, co-owner of the restaurant, said they’ve been filling pie orders for their customers since they opened their door 34 years ago.

“We make all of them from scratch -- only the best ingredients,” said Miller. “They are all fresh and no preservatives.”

Every year, customers line up to get the special creations. Many place their orders weeks in advance.

“I grew up in Pennsylvania, Dutch country, and they just remind me of home and they are delicious,” customer Larry Reed said. "You know, they’re really good.”

To meet the demand, the Millers bring in family members to help.

“We have our nieces and nephews that come in and help us,” said Miller. “They come back from college and they are on vacation.  The whole family comes in together and we just work day and night and we accomplish a great task.”

Miller’s offers 23 different pie flavors and out of all of them, the peanut butter pie is the most popular.

Pumpkin, pecan and Dutch apple are also a big hit for Thanksgiving.

It’s a family tradition of baking pies that the Millers say they enjoy doing year after year.

Miller’s is open on Thanksgiving day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be selling pies on a first come first serve basis.

Miller’s Dutch Kitchen is located at 3401 14th St. W. in Bradenton. They can be reached at 941-746-8253.
