Legoland will open its first hotel in May and the theme park will open an added attraction this summer.

Park officials announced Thursday an opening date of May 15 for the 5-story, 152-room hotel that will open at the Winter Haven-based park.

The new hotel is located near the main entrance of the park. General Manager Adrian Jones said the hotel will change the way they do business.

"Not only in terms of the way that guests perceive the resort in general and packages to the resort, but also the way we operate," said Jones. "We are a 24/7 business now.”

The new attraction is called Heartlake City, targeting girls and the Lego Friends! collection of female characters.

The new area also will feature a coaster called, Mia's Riding Adventure and a show called, "Friends to the Rescue."

Park officials also announced the park will move Legoland's Model Shop into the hotel, giving visitors a glimpse at how the elaborate Lego creations are constructed, said Jones.

The new additions will create 150 new jobs at the park.

"We call them model citizens here," Jones said. "But the hotel is also going to represent a significant change for the local area as well. I think there are going to be a lot more jobs that will be attracted by resort destination positioning which is kind of what the hotel means officially for Legoland Florida."

Legoland spokesperson Julie Estrada said the new hotel in Legoland California, which opened in 2013, had families spending more time in the park and more money in town.

"They are going to be shopping nearby, they are going to be experiencing dining nearby,” said Estrada. "Not only that - it extended the Legoland theme park experience because as soon as you walk into a Legoland hotel you are in a box full of LEGO toys. And it's really to kids' levels."

It’s designed for them, right down to the Lego-themed rooms, with more than 2,000 models. Even the master model builders workshop will move to the hotel!

“It gives the guest the ability to actually spend time and book time to build with a master model builder as part of the evening entertainment,” said Jones.

The hotel rooms will sport views of Lake Eloise as well as the site of a new land Heartlake City.
