A nine-year-old’s quest to help the homeless started on a car ride. Mandy Sperando lives in Gibsonton. Mandy told us, she was with her brother Jax, when the pair noticed someone in need.

“We were on our way to our grandparents,” Mandy said. “And, Jax saw some construction workers and thought they were homeless and it was like, ‘Dad, give them some money!’”

Mandy decided to take matters into her own hands and set out to raise cash on her own.

“I took some old toys and books I didn’t read or play with anymore and tried to sell them at school,” Mandy said.
She made a few dollars but not nearly enough. So with the help of her parents, she created a website to fund her packages of kindness.

So far, Mandy has put together 50 packages stuffed with toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, socks, granola bars and more.

Each bag costs of $6.53. Mandy’s dad, Justin, says many people have stepped up to help. And he gives all the credit to Mandy.

“She is one of the kindest people that I have ever met,” Justin said. “When she gets and idea there’s really no stopping her.”
