Nureyev’s Eyes” is the story of friends and artists Jamie Wyeth and Rudolph Nureyev.

Jaime Wyeth is one of the country’s greatest living painters and Rudolph Nureyev was a famed Russian ballet dancer who defected from the Soviet Union in 1961.

The story of the two comes to life for the Florida premiere of the stage play at the American Stage Theatre in St. Petersburg.

“The play becomes a journey of self-discovery for one of the characters, and I hope the audience understands what he goes through and how he’s been changed,” said playwright David Rush.

David Rush’s play takes the audience through the intense process of the artist creating works of art based on the dancer’s life.

“You get to see how these guys fight and negotiate and ultimately how it changes each artist and what they gain from it,” said director Darin Anthony.

“Nureyev’s Eyes” runs in conjunction with the Jamie Wyeth’s collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg.
