The Central Florida Breakfast of Champions series commenced Friday morning in  Brevard County.
The ceremony, held at Cocoa Beach Country Club, honored top area student athletes and their achievements on and off the playing field.

Thirty-four in total got recognized on Friday morning, including athletes, administrators and coaches. Among the group, a state champion quarterback, that will soon be trekking to Oregon to continue his football career—Cocoa High School’s Bruce Judson.

“This is a blessing and this is great,” Judson said of earning the Brevard County Football Offense Athlete of the Year Award. “Because not too many people get to be a state champion or be honored like this so you just have to seize the moment now and just be thankful for it.”

A humbling experience too for sophomore outside hitter for Merritt Island’s Lexy Dunaburg who says the team will be good again next year and they have their eye on avenging their season ending loss to Bishop Moore.

“We’ve all been working out in the weight room there is no off season for us because we want to get back at Bishop Moore,” Dunaburg explained of her off season. She is committed to play sand volleyball at UCLA.

And the award to the Athletic Director of the Year –the vote coming from his peers--went out to Eau Gallie’s Tod Oas.

“Obviously it’s an honor, I think we have a great group of Athletic Directors in Brevard County –there’s 16 of us,” Oas said of his award. “To know they feel that way and that we work together and put me with this honor it is truly an honor.”

Friday’s ceremony is the first of six stops on this Spectrum Sports Breakfast of Champions series, next up is  Orange County on May 15th.
