In a rematch of last year’s 2A finals between St. John Lutheran and Geneva, the Saints dropped the first set to the Knights, but won three in a row to claim their second consecutive state title and third in the last four years. Senior outside hitter Gigi Chiaramonte led St. John Lutheran with 20 kills and was named the player of the game in her final match of her high school career.

Geneva won the first set 25-23 behind senior middle blocker Jordyn Stiger’s 7 kills, their first win against the Saints after losing 3-0 in last year’s finals. The Knights led early in the second and third sets, but unforced errors let St. John Lutheran to get back into the match and win with identical 25-22 scores in both sets. Stiger led the Knights with 21 kills while sophomore outside hitter added 11 kills in the loss.

The volleyball state finals continue on Saturday with four matches scheduled starting with Bishop Moore taking on Ponte Vedra at 10 a.m. at the UNF Arena in Jacksonville.

In 7A Barron Collier will take on Choctawhatchee at 1 p.m. while Venice and Tallahassee Leon square off in the 8A Finals at 4 p.m.

The final match of the night pits undefeated and nationally ranked (15th) West Orange against (85th) Palm Beach Gardens, scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. The Gators enter with a 24-match winning streak on the line and look to win the first volleyball title in school history. The Warriors will also be looking to win their first state title in school history and become the third team in Central Florida history to finish a season undefeated and the first since Bishop Moore finished 32-0 in 2012.
