An inadvertent whistle nullified an apparent game-winning interception late in the fourth quarter as Flagler Palm Coast overcame an abysmal first half to knock off Spruce Creek 17-14 at Pop Johnson Field.

Bulldogs senior quarterback Ryan Freeman attempted to find wide receiver Isaiah Stubbs in the flat on fourth and goal from the five-yard line, but threw the ball directly to Spruce Creek safety Jhemez Hull who ran 93-yards untouched before the officials conferred and announced the inadvertent whistle, giving the Hawks the ball at their own 40-yard line. Spruce Creek was unable to score on their final two possessions, losing for the first time this season.

Flagler Palm Coast forced two fumbles and scored 17-unanswered points in the second half after the Hawks led 7-0 at halftime on a Kyle Minckler touchdown pass to Hayden Flood in the first quarter. FPC Sophomore quarterback Donovon Montoyo rushed for 57 yards on 10 carries and scored both touchdowns for FPC en route to being named Player of the Game.

FPC improves to 7-0 and 2-0 in Class 8A District 1 under first year head coach Travis Roland. Spruce Creek falls into a tie with Mandarin at 1-1 in the district standings after Sandalwood knocked off the Mustangs in other district action.
