Tammie Fields, Anchor/Reporter

Tammie Fields has worked as a journalist covering the Sunshine State for nearly 20 years and is now thrilled to call Central Florida home. You can catch her anchoring the weekday evening shows at Spectrum News 13.

Tammie has worked on air in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and now Florida. While working as a reporter and anchor in Tallahassee, she taught journalism students at Florida A&M University where she worked as an adjunct professor.

After covering several big stories in Tallahassee like the presidential election recount and the One Florida march she spent six glorious years in Jacksonville co-anchoring the 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. segments of The Morning Show.

She also solo anchored the noon show each day before moving to Tampa to get married. There she worked as a reporter and fill in anchor until taking over Weekend Anchor duties where she served local viewers on air and in the community for 10 years.

Tammie graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in radio, TV and film and a minor in South African history. In May of 2017 she was blessed to earn a master’s degree in Digital Journalism & Design from the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg.

She is deeply humbled to have been honored by The Associated Press with an individual achievement award for coverage of the hurricanes in 2004. In 2005 she earned an award from the American Heart Association for “Excellence in Cardiovascular Communications” and two years later received a media ambassador award for her work as a “Power to End Stroke Ambassador.” In 2009 she was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists for investigative reporting.

She’s flown with the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and interviewed famous people like First Lady Laura Bush, R&B singer Brian McKnight, and the late civil rights leader Coretta Scott King and her daughter, the late Yolanda King.

During the presidential election of 2008 she filed a special “Battleground State Report” on a nationally syndicated radio show, The Tom Joyner Morning Show.

Tammie and her husband Chris love to spend time together with their son trying out different restaurants, visiting historical sites, and community events. Tammie loves running, reading newspapers and drinking coffee so when you see her out and about introduce yourself. She’s always looking for good Mediterranean and Greek restaurants to grab a bite.
