Jerry Hume, Reporter

Before joining News 13, Jerry worked as a Capitol News reporter in Tallahassee.

As a reporter for WTXL ABC 27, Jerry covered Florida’s legislature, governor and state agencies. From immigration and gambling to prison closures and cuts to the state workforce, there’s not an issue Jerry didn’t report on during Florida’s legislative sessions.

He also covered Governor Charlie Crist’s run as an independent for U.S. Senate and Governor Rick Scott’s first year in office.

The Florida Associated Press recognized Jerry’s political coverage in both 2011 and 2012. Jerry also reported along the Gulf Coast during the 2010 Oil Spill, reporting live as the first tar balls hit Florida’s shores.

Before moving to Florida, Jerry worked at WLUC TV6 in his hometown, Marquette, Michigan. There, Jerry did just about every job in the newsroom, starting off as a production assistant, then a producer and photographer to finally becoming a reporter and anchor.

Jerry reported on everything from controversial mines and murder trials to wildfires and blizzards.

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters named him “Reporter of the Year” in 2009 for his market size.

When Jerry is not reporting, you can find him dodging waves along Florida’s Space Coast.  Jerry also loves photography, spending time with his 5 nieces, hitting up the theme parks, or following the career of his favorite broadcaster, Regis Philbin.
