Jamie Martin, Meteorologist

Jamie Martin is no stranger to Central Florida weather. He was born in it. Growing up in Clearwater, he was able to get the weather itch at a very early age. Some of his early memories include standing by Tampa Bay and watching the waves come over the sea wall during Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Other times, he would sit in front of his grandparents' home and watch water spouts form out in the Gulf of Mexico.

By 1980, Jamie moved to Central Florida and attended Lake Brantley High School, in Altamonte Springs. After receiving an A.A. degree from the University of Florida, it was off to Florida State and the School of Meteorology.

Upon graduation, Jamie's journey in television began. Starting in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, his stops included Brownsville, Texas; Gainesville; Charlotte, North Carolina; Washington, D.C.; Orlando; Louisville, Kentucky and South Bend, Indiana before returning to Central Florida.

All of that travel exposed Jamie to plenty of diverse weather patterns, from wind and ice storms to blizzards and 40-below-zero wind chills. But his real passion is severe weather and hurricanes. He was here for the infamous 2004 hurricane season and earlier in his career for the "Storm of the Century" in 1993 while in Gainesville. He has put in a lot of miles, but that experience is what is needed in the field of meteorology.

Jamie is an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and a member of the American Meteorological Society, and he holds the Television Seal of Approval.

In his spare time, Jamie enjoys surfing, golfing and renovating older homes to their past glory.
