Christmas may be canceled at the Orlando Union Rescue Mission if they don't get more toy donations.

  • Orlando Union Rescue Mission needs toy donations
  • May have to cancel Christmas event because of lack of donations
  • Event is this Saturday

The Orlando Union Rescue Mission provides shelter and rehabilitative services for homeless and needy men, women and children.

The mission is set to host its Christmas Extravaganza Saturday at its Family Life Center. Ever year the mission holds toy drives so residents at the mission can select toys for their children.

But the mission has not gotten enough toy donations this year, and the lack of donations means they may have to cancel the event.

While mission officials say presents are not the real meaning of Christmas -- toys for the kids, especially those who are living at a shelter through the holidays -- means the world to the families.

The mission has set up an Amazon Wishlist for anyone who wants to donate, which you can find on the Amazon website.

But mission officials say the list is just a guide, and they welcome any assistance from the community this year.

You can also drop off toys at the OURM Family Home on 1521 W. Washington St. in Orlando, or call at 407-422-4855, ext. 1109.
