It was a hole-in-one for the Valspar Championship this past weekend and even for local businesses.

  • Palm Harbor businesses won big during Valspar
  • Tournament drew 150,000 people to area
  • Businesses saw economic increase from crowds

The Palm Harbor tournament drew 150,000 people this weekend, nearly 40,000 more than last year, which means businesses in the area saw the extra 'green.'

Mario Barbara owns a Gelato shop right near Innisbrook and said he and his neighboring businesses had a monster week.

"We had people piled in all over the place, scattered everywhere," he said.

Many said having Tiger here was a big part of how well their business did this weekend.

"Having Tiger, especially playing the way he did, brought a lot of people around. A lot of people had his back," said Mike Barbara with Fireside Pizza Cafe.

Despite Tiger losing, restaurants and hotels were able to win big thanks in part to him.

"Tiger coming to town made a great difference," Mario Barbara said.

The event also generates millions of dollars in charity each year due to ticket sales.
