Communities in multiple Bay area counties are closely monitoring local rivers.

  • Flooding in Pasco's Bass Lake community
  • Voluntary evacuation for Lake Worrell Acres, Cranes Roost and surrounding areas
  • In Hernando Co., River at Trilby expected to rise to 17 feet by Sept. 18

In Pasco County, there is a voluntary evacuation order for the Bass Lake community. The voluntary evacuation order includes Lake Worrell Acres, Cranes Roost and surrounding areas.

The Bass Lake neighborhood does have some high ground so some people aren't impacted. But there are some flood waters in the lower pockets of the neighborhood.

And the more rain in the area, the worse the flooding will get.

Signs were posted yesterday afternoon warning homeowners of possible flooding after Irma dumped several inches of rain - and even more was dropped by storms yesterday.

By 7 p.m. Thursday, the county issued a voluntary evacuation order as flood waters creeped closer to homes.

Overnight, the county monitored the flooding with a high water rescue vehicle. Flooding receded overnight but with more rain on the way today, even higher flood waters could be seen today.

The county recommends anyone that evacuates today should flooding get worse stay with a family or friend. As a last resort - the county still has a hurricane shelter open in the event evacuee have no where else to go.

But it is not just Pasco residents dealing with the flooding.

Hernando County issued a voluntary evacuation order as well for people living along the Withlacoochee River.

On Friday morning, there was moderate flooding in the Ridge Manor area.

But the potential for major flooding is expected by Monday when the river is expected to rise to 17 feet. The rising water has some people in the area packing up.

"We are moving out," said resident Johnnie Smith. "We've come out of the last flood (which) was supposed to be a record. We survived it. Now they're saying this is going to dwarf it. We don't have no choice."

County officials are asking people to find shelter with family or friends first.

The enrichment center in Brooksville is being operated as a public shelter for people looking for a place to go.
