A stretch of East Fletcher Avenue remains closed Wednesday morning near Interstate 75 due to a cavern underneath the roadway.

Authorities closed westbound Fletcher Ave. at Telecom Parkway Tuesday afternoon due to the cavern that formed under a bridge. 

Officials said there was a water main break that caused the cavern. 

There is no time frame for when the roadway as crews continue to work on fixing the water main break. Crews will then have to fill in the cavern and stabilize the road.  

In the meantime, the 35,000 cars that travel this stretch of Fletcher Ave. daily will have to find alternate routes. The local routes to get traffic around: Fowler Avenue to 56th Street and back to Fletcher.
