Thanks to working smoke alarms, a family of five made it out of their house when a fire broke out early Thursday morning.

  • Fire officials: fire reported started in garage
  • Family, dog all safe

Fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home on Estuary Drive.

Fire officials said the fire appeared to have started in the garage of the home and was accidental.

The home was destroyed in the fire but thankfully, the family and their dog all made it out safely.

Officials said it could have been much worse if the family did not have working smoke alarms.

The displaced family was taken in by friends in the neighborhood, officials said.
