A Polk County family is still searching for answers, nearly four years after their loved one, Reginald Evans Jr., was found unresponsive in the middle of Lucerne Park Road in Winter Haven.

  • He had broken pelvis, leg and drugs in his system
  • Family members are trying to figure out why he was in the road

His daughter, Keyana Evans, 7, said Father’s Day is always a rough time of year.

“The hardest part is that you have to grow up now with…without out a dad to grow up with,“ said Keyana.

She was 3 years old when her father died in November of 2013.

“I miss him a lot before I go to bed,” she said, clutching an audio book that captures his voice reading to her.

Winter Haven Police initially reported Reginald Evans, Jr. was involved in a hit and run crash.  According to the police report, before paramedics could transport him by helicopter to a hospital, paramedics said he went into cardiac arrest.

“I’m always thinking about it and playing it over in my mind, with the calls and when we finally went up to the hospital and they were like he’s dead,” said his wife Kizzy Evans.

For years, the family has been hoping for answers surrounding what led up to him lying in the middle of the roadway.

“Somebody, some people or whoever needs to just be honest and come forth and give us some closure. We deserve closure in this. My children, they deserve closure in this,” said Kizzy.

According to the autopsy report, Reginald Evans, Jr. had a broken pelvis and leg, and drugs in his system.
