A robbery suspect's voice gave him away and led to his arrest after attempting to rob a gas station in Winter Haven that he visited often, officials said.

The attempted robbery occurred at the Circle K located at 4980 Spirit Lake Rd. in Winter Haven on Wednesday, Dec. 13, around 6:30 p.m.

Caleb Owens, 21, is accused of attempting to rob a gas station. Witnesses said Owens had something inside his jacket pocket, but were not sure if it was a gun. 

Detectives said Owens was wearing a hoodie that covered his face and demanded money from the cashier several times. The cashier refused even though Owens implied he had a gun in his pocket. 

During the robbery attempt, detectives said a customer gave the suspect $15 in cash and told him "it wasn't worth it." Owens then quickly left the store, detectives said. 

According to the report, the cashier told detectives that she recognized the suspect's voice, eyes, and body type and that he visited the store on a regular basis. 

Witnesses were able to identify the suspect and when detectives made contact with Owens he admitted to attempting to rob the Circle K and pretended to have a gun in his jacket. 

Owens was charged and transported to the Polk County jail. 

His previous criminal history includes possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
