Clearwater police are honoring a woman Thursday with a Samaritan Award for helping officers take care of two children during a DUI investigation.

  • Woman awarded for helping officer w/kids during DUI investigation
  • Megan Andrews to be honored with Samaritan Award

Police said Megan Andrews was driving on McMullen Booth Road on Nov. 26 when she saw a police officer trying to take care of two toddlers on the side of the road. The mother of the children had been involved in a minor accident and was being investigated for DUI, police said.

Andrews stopped and asked the officer if he needed help, and he quickly accepted her offer. Police said Andrews drove home and got toys, snacks, and drinks for the kids to occupy them while they waited for their grandmother to come get them.

"Megan could have just driven by the scene like most others would do," said Police Chief Dan Slaughter. "But she saw a need and chose to get involved and help. She epitomizes what the Samaritan Award is all about — people who go above and beyond to help others."
