The budget crisis continues for the Hillsborough County School District.

For months teachers have been fighting for a pay increase, and now those who transport and protect the students say they're struggling.

Union leaders went to a negotiating meeting Wednesday morning but left without a deal. They said the district offered $300,000 for 4,300 employees which averages to about $69 a person.

Union leaders said many drivers are being forced to pick up second jobs.

"We have bus drivers that have to collect food stamps, we have drivers that have to have their kids on state medical," Iran Alicea, President of Hillsborough School Employees Federation.

When Bay News 9 reached out to the district, a spokeswoman said they can't comment on the situation because they're in the middle of negotiations.

Union leaders said they will head back to the bargaining table next month.
