It's time for the asphalt covering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr St in St Petersburg to be replaced.

But unlike similar streets, the process the City will take before restriping new lanes won't be as simple as grinding up the old and replacing it with new.
Mayor Rick Kriseman has instructed his team to take a look at all city streets project under the microscope of the Complete Streets Program.
Complete Streets is a design process that takes into consideration the needs of all users of our roads, not just the cars, according to Lucas Cruse, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for the City.
"What that says is, in short, when you're looking at our roads we need to look at how are we serving all modes of transportation," said St. Pete resident Tim Mulligan. "And how are we meeting all of the Community's goals, not just moving cars quickly."
To that end, the City is looking for public input via an online survey on the City of St Petersburg Website.
Current concepts include adding median landscaping and wide bike lanes along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street from 5th Avenue North to 34th Avenue North.
The road will not be widened more than the existing roadway, changes made will occur between the existing east and west side curbs.
