Joseph Dawson says he's spent more than $10,000 shoring up the ground around his business, replacing fences and filling in the holes created by construction along U.S. 19 in Homosassa.

"They call it catastrophic ground collapse, and they did it all along my property line."

Since Aug. 10, there have been three road depressions on or along US 19 in Homosassa.

  • On Homosassa Trail east of US 19
  • Northbound US 19 at Homosassa Trail
  • Northbound US 19 after Green Acres Street

The Florida Department of Transportation has repaired all three of the issues along the road.

Dawson, however, believes the damage to his business is the responsibility of the contractor and by default the State of Florida.

He and other business owners along U.S. 19 in Citrus County are waiting word on how to recoup losses due to construction.
